Our Middle School students recently launched an effort we are calling MC3 (Middle Schoolers Creating a Caring Community). Their collective goal is to take responsibility for creating the culture in which they want to be a part. During the month of September they spent time each Friday getting to know each other better as they began to develop their community building skills. They reached consensus that kindness, mutual respect, and open-mindedness are the basic elements that need to be included in their community. The students have formed “clans” in order to facilitate discussions and build a sense of family. These clans will meet regularly as they continue to explore topics related to the their MC3 work.
